Methow  Community Trail (MCT) – 30k, Mazama to Winthrop

Mazama is a great starting point for the classic community trail that connects Mazama to Winthrop through farmland, and forest as it winds down the valley. Shorter warm up or loops for beginners take off right from the main parking lot circling meadows and bypassing the biathlon range.

 Mazama – Jacks Loop, 22k

Jacks Loop to the North offers some nice steady climbs and rolling terrain between tightening mountain ranges along the Methow river.  Access from the Mazama Junction requires a few road crossings but allows for pit stops at the Freestone Inn.

Mazama – Inn Run to Goat Creek to  MCT Loop, 15k

Head south from the Mazama Junction through the Inn Run meadows to the hilly-forested goat creek.  A short steep stretch across the road leads to the suspension bridge and the northern section of the community trail.  Finish looping back to the Mazama Junction.

Chickadee Trailhead – Thompson Road out-and-back

On the southern-most end of the Sun Mountain trails the Chickadee trail head offers some short loops great for kids or new skiers and a long steady climb up Thompson Road.  Continue back to little wolf and other side trails that loop through the woods back to the trail head.

Winthrop Trails – Powers Plunge to Winthrop Trail Loop, 20k

From the Ice-skating rink trail head in Winthrop ski north crossing open MCT farmlands to the Powers Plunge junction.  Climb this steep trial earning a long decent on the Winthrop trail with fun loop extensions like Barnsley Lake and Bitterbrush before returning back to the trail head.

The standard cold and crisp sunny conditions make for an enjoyable skiing on the skillfully groomed MVSTA Methow Community Trails.
