Hiked and filmed on the day I said goodbye to my grandma made this beautiful fall outing extra special.
McClellan Butte is a bit of a misnomer. McClellan Peak or Spire would be more descriptive. This hike is steep sustained and ends with a rocky scramble to the true summit. Revealing dramatic views of Snoqualmie pass to the North bend Greenbelt.
The trail starts from the looped parking lot through trees, switchbacks often and has several road crossings. It is possible to connect with the Twin Falls trail and the popular John Wayne Rails To Trails cycling route. Continue up through switchbacks that offer occasional openings and views along the way before cutting back steeply into the tree canopy. The final stretch traverses the breadth of the mountain and wraps around the southern tip of the peak above the protected Cedar River watershed. Cut back north and down a short section before the final steep pitch and rocky scramble to the rocky summit.
